The Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo has sentenced Uduak Akpan, the first accused in the murder of Iniubong Umoren to death by hanging.

In the over two hours judgement by the presiding Judge, Bassey Nkanang, the convict was found guilty of rape and murder and sentenced to be hung on the neck till he dies.

Recall that Iniubong Umoren, a graduate of University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and a job seeker was brutally murdered after she was invited for a job interview on April 29 by Akpan.

There was a reported attempted escape at the court by the convict but it took the intervention of the Police to foil the move when Akpan attempted to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang.

The convict was sentenced to death by hanging and life imprisonment in the two charge of murder and rape preferred against him.
But his father, Frank Akpan and sister, Anwan Bassey were freed as the court discharged them of the charge of accessory after murder pressed against them.
