The management of Africa StarX has unveiled the first season of the sports reality show.

The reality show is a fusion of sports, lifestyle and entertainment, but this season, focusing on basketball.

At the unveiling in Lagos on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the management, led Dr. Benjamin Peters expressed delight at the upcoming show scheduled to hold in the last quarter of 2022.

“It is with joy and delight that we open the portal for submission of entries for the first edition of the Africa StarX, where professionals and the general public will be determining that next big basketball star. The project has been designed as a platform to give opportunities to talented sportsmen to showcase their talents and get to the zenith of their careers through management and endorsement deals that we would be providing for the eventual winner,” Dr. Peters said.

The event had in attendance, the Vice President of Nigeria BasketBall Federation, Babs Ogunade, Olanrewaju Bamidele Jaiyeola, of Honeywell Flour Mill PLC, Henry Omotayo, the project lead, Phillip Braide, Ogoh Odaudu, and Kolade Adu.

Sports journalist, Femi Adefeso was announced as the show host while Ogoh Odaudu, Chris Nomingo, Taiye Adeniyi, Shola Shomala, Adewunmi Aderemi, and Abdulrahman Mohammed were announced as coaches for the participants.

Speaking on the show format, the project coordinator and lead, Henry Omotayo disclosed that for this maiden season, participants across the country, will be picked through entry submission on the website between August 31st and September 30th.

“Physical auditions will follow immediately after the entry submissions in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos after which a team of coaches will select the last 25, both male and female, that will enter the house to participate in the show. The 25 participants are expected to bond and engage in different challenging activities for a duration of 30 days while slugging it out as a team and later as individuals to win the reality show,” Omotayo said.

The VP of NBBF, Babs Ogunade, and Olanrewaju Jaiyeola, lauded the initiative and the idea creator Dr. Peters saying it’s a wonderful development that will further contribute to the growth of sport and basketball in Nigeria.

Omotayo also spoke on the humanitarian side of the Africa StarX tagged Africa StarX Cares. He noted that the Africa StarX cares is the humanitarian angle to the project which will see participants visit charity organizations to donate, engage in community services and also contribute their quota to humanity.

The best team gets a cash reward of 10millon naira, 2.5Millon for the most valuable player, Management deal and contract for international tryouts, and one participant also gets a college scholarship.
